I'm a bit chagrined...I did write him about Pirsig. I'm a bit chagrined about it now, but more because it breathes youthful love. If I remember correctly, I gave him my impressions about Pirsig and his place in antiprofessional philosophy and wondered if he might not be interesting to take a look at under those auspices. Or something. Rorty's response was like a shrug of the shoulders. Which is what I expected.

I've never expected to find Rorty reference Pirsig in his later writings, and I doubt he ever did aside from in "Trotsky and the Wild Orchids". I've always imagined Pirsig as my project, as my particular obsession. What I do regret is that he didn't write about more literary subjects, like he did in Congingency, Irony, and Solidarity. Whenever he did it was exciting and interesting.Matt Khttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05304261355315746372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24152639.post-18331773756566203682007-12-10T12:48:00.000-07:002007-12-10T12:48:00.000-07:00I remember an old post at MOQ_discuss where you re...I remember an old post at MOQ_discuss where you revealed a brief email exchange you had with Rorty. If I recall correctly you were asking (pleading?) with him to take another look at Pirsig. You desired to impress upon Rorty how Pirsig had revealed a world of philosophy to you (and many other Americans) that subsequently lead you to Rorty. I think you desired a more thorough treatment of Pirsig by Rorty. Rorty's response to you was curt but promising as I recall. Didn't he say he would give Pirsig another read. I know that it was hardly a promise, but I imagine you were silently waiting and searching his most recent writings for some references to Pirsig and perhaps you will do the same with his posthumous material as well.

I wonder if there will be some regret if never discover a more thorough treatment of Pirsig by Rorty or if you will simply continue to take on the work a marrying the two yourself?Andy Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14422640968475662175noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24152639.post-15174678424158377962007-06-18T01:15:00.000-07:002007-06-18T01:15:00.000-07:00That was worth waiting for :o)That was worth waiting for :o)Sam Charles Nortonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04088870675715850624noreply@blogger.com
